About us
At the time, I was sitting on a large quantity of impact mats (metaphorically speaking) that I had no idea what to do with. These had a previous life as landing pads beneath a giant water slide that had been touring cities all over the country. A failed venture that I'd regretfully funded and now in the wash up they were destined for landfill.
I couldn't bare to see such waste, so I took on the challenge of giving them another life.
My first experiment was to list them on facebook marketplace and they slowly sold at a bargain price for a diverse range of uses, from cosplay makers, archers and outback campers to name a few.
Suddenly covid hit and the announcement came that gyms were closing, indefinitely. Hundreds of people were now in crisis mode, scurrying to set up their home gyms.
The shift in direction
When I changed the title of my Marketplace post to “gym mats,” enquiries flooded in and I quickly gained respect for the fitness community. These were action takers who kept moving despite the uncertainty of the time. While others raised prices, I kept mine fair and learned the value of supporting people in need.
I soon realised the mats were unique and perfect for a home gym movement that was gathering momentum. That was when the Rolley brand voice emerged and I started calling myself the “hero of home gyms.” Having just lost my job to COVID, I threw myself into building something new.
Early MMA and Jiu Jitsu customers often said they “could not go a day without rolling,” which inspired the brand. After selling out, I refined the product with customer feedback and launched Rolley online.
